Championing our Community
We are proud to participate in and sponsor a wide range of events on St. George Island, in Eastpoint and Apalachicola, and across Franklin County and the greater Forgotten Coast. From charitable events with national reach like the St. George Island Chili Cook-Off, Florida Seafood Festival, and Running By the Bay Marathon, to more local causes like the Franklin Needs Pink-Out to support breast cancer screenings and treatment, or sponsoring local youth activities, Resort Vacation Properties is happy to give back to the community of which we are lucky to be a part.
A very small list of our engagement includes these organizations and events. More details to come soon–there’s a lot to add!
Florida Seafood Festival
The Florida Seafood Festival is a two-day event held annually on the first weekend of November. The oldest maritime festival in Florida, it draws tens of thousands of visitors to the historic town of Apalachicola in scenic Franklin County. The Festival is held at the mouth of the Apalachicola river under the shady oaks of Apalachicola’s Battery Park. The festival features delicious seafood, arts and crafts exhibits, seafood related events, and musical entertainment.
Some of the notable events include:
The Blessing of the Fleet
Oyster Eating Contest
Oyster Shucking Contest
Blue Crab Races
5k Redfish Run
History of the Festival Exhibit
Tonging For Treasure.
St. George Island Charity Chili Cook-Off
is an annual event held on the first Saturday of March, to benefit the St. George Island Fire Department. Exceptionally popular, the Chili Cook-Off will celebrate its 35th year in 2017 and attracts over 5,000 visitors to the Island.
There are a variety of events including a crockpot chili competition (prepared at home and judged on-site), Miss Chili Pepper and Mr. Hot Sauce contests, a golf tournament, and the “Red Pepper 5k” race.
The centerpiece of the event is, of course, the Chili Cook-Off itself. No ingredients can be prepared before hand, and all seasoning and cooking must be done on-site. With three hours of cooking time, and a star-studded cast of chili specialists from far and wide, the competition gets hot and heavy!
Officially sanctioned by the International Chili Society, winners of the St. George Island Charity Chili Cook-Off advance to the I.C.S World Chili Championships.
