Can I Rent A Bicycle, Chair, Kayak, Etc?
New for 2016, most of our vacation homes include a credit for beach gear rental, which you will select after completing your reservation. This can include chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, and other beach-going amenities. These will be delivered to your vacation rental before your arrival.
There are businesses that rent boat, jet skis, and other watersport supplies both on the island and/or the nearby towns of Eastpoint and Apalachicola. We have brochures in the office for your convenience, or you are welcome to call or email for more information. The Chamber of Commerce is a good resource as well.
Golf carts are available from multiple vendors. The Franklin County Vehicle Ordinance defines and regulates the use of one. A “golf cart” is defined as a motor vehicle for sporting or recreational purposes that is not capable of speeds of more than twenty (20) miles per hour. It can only be operated during the hours of one-half hour after sunrise to one-half hour before sunset. However, a golf cart equipped with headlights, brake lights, turn signals, and windshield may be operated between sunset and sunrise on all county roads. Operators must possess a valid driver’s license and the golf cart is limited to the number of passengers that there are seats. Golf carts are allowed on all county roads on St. George Island EXCEPT GULF BEACH DRIVE AND FRANKLIN BOULEVARD. You may cross these roads in a golf cart but are not allowed to travel on them, nor on the bike path along Gulf Beach Drive. The roads in St. George Plantation are not considered county roads, and golf carts are not allowed in the Plantation.
There are no marinas on the Island; Eastpoint and Apalachicola are home to several.
The St. George Island boat ramp is located on the northeast side of the St. George Island fishing bridge. This newly-constructed ramp has become very popular and can accommodate various size boats. It offers parking for 13 cars and 14 boat/trailer combos.
There are two natural (not paved or maintained) ramps for boat access into the Apalachicola Bay located in the State Park. One ramp is at the Youth Camp area and the other is 2.5 miles from the entrance. Both ramps can accommodate boats not much larger than 24’ in length with a shallow draft, depending on the current tide. A small fee is required.
Apalachicola offers several public boat ramps that can accommodate any trailer-able boat. Battery Park is located at the foot of the John Gorrie Memorial Bridge on Bay Avenue between 4th and 6th Streets in downtown Apalachicola. The park offers several public boat ramps, a playground, and a fishing pier. Another ramp is located on Market Street at Mill Pond on Scipio Creek. The Lombardi boat ramp is located near the westerly entrance into Apalachicola on US Highway 98.
