Cape St. George Museum

The historic Cape St. George Lighthouse originally stood on what is currently known as Little St. George Island, but had an unfortunate ending in late 2005, when it crumbled into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico. A few years later, however, the lighthouse was rebuilt at the center of St. George Island and opened for visitors. Along with a trip into the lighthouse itself, you’ll want to explore the replica keeper’s house, where you’ll find a museum packed with information about the lighthouse’s history.

Apalachicola Maritime Museum

Just minutes from St. George Island, the small city of Apalachicola is home to a unique collection of quaint museums. One local favorite, the Apalachicola Maritime Museum, offers a number of exciting boat tours, both recreational and educational, to highlight the Forgotten Coast’s colorful maritime culture. The museum also currently features a 58-foot ketch – a dual-mast sailboat – designed by storied boat designer L. Francis Herreshoff.

John Gorrie Museum

The John Gorrie Museum State Park features engaging exhibits about Apalachicola’s history, along with a replica of the ice-making machine created by Dr. John Gorrie, who played a fundamental role in the community throughout the 1800s.

Raney House Museum

Originally constructed in 1838, four short years after owner David G. Raney moved to Apalachicola, the Raney House blends elements from Greek Revival and Federal-style architecture. Today, it serves as a historic museum, featuring various items dating back to the 19th century.
