Hurricane Michael Updates
UPDATE: Monday, 10:45 AM
RVP had 13 teams on the Island early this morning to begin damage assessments. Despite some reports of how easily St George Island escaped, there is substantial damage to the infrastructure of the Island. Roads are still being plowed and cleared today, and remain strewn with nails, roofing, and other debris.
In the middle of the Island, East Gulf Beaches, and the East End, large amounts of standing water continue to form lakes. These pools could be dangerous, with submerged physical and health hazards. Gorrie Drive is only accessible via some streets, with other connectors flooded out.
THERE IS NO POWER. Septic systems have been compromised. Boardwalks, pools, decks, and siding have been blown off, or just disappeared.
It is not a place ready for guests to return. Most homes are not destroyed, but the damage to the Island itself and the infrastructure necessary to run it are substantial.
We now have some electricity in our Eastpoint offices and are coordinating efforts from here. The Island remains without power or internet access.
RVP will continue to update and communicate as we are able. Vacation Specialists are contacting guests due to arrive in the next two weeks to discuss their options. As always, you may begin Trip Insurance claims here:
