Fun Ways to Experience a St. George Island Christmas This Year

St. George Island Lighting of the Palms

Watch as the St. George Island Business Association, St. George Lighthouse Association, and St. George Island Visitor Center light up the tall, iconic trees of Florida. You can admire the glowing palm trees as you and the kids enjoy holiday activities like visiting Santa, drinking hot cocoa, and indulging in Christmas cookies! Plus, this spirit-filled holiday event takes place at the St. George Island Lighthouse, so you’ll even catch a glimpse of Forgotten Coast history while you’re there!

Highway 98 Eastpoint Artisans Market & Country Farmers Market at Crooked River Lighthouse

Looking for cool gifts to give to your loved ones this Christmas? You should try out the local farmers’ markets around the area. Some great options are Highway 98 Eastpoint, Florida, Artisans Market, or Country Farmers Market at the Crooked River Lighthouse.

Every first and third Saturday of the month, you can shop locally for handcrafted goods, delicious food, and more.

Apalachicola Downtown Market

Another fantastic farmers market to enjoy is the Apalachicola Downtown Market that happens every other Wednesday morning on Commerce Street and every second and fourth Saturday on Market Street. You can catch the Apalachicola Annual Open-Air Fresh Market during the holiday season towards the beginning of December.

Build a Sandman

We may not have snow, but we sure do have beautiful white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico waters! Bring your friends, family, and dog to the beach for an afternoon of mild weather, sunshine, and creating memories together. All of your friends back home will be wishing they were here when you post pictures of your merry little sandmen

Your St. George Island Thanksgiving Guide

Our island is known for its laidback nature, and not many businesses will be open on Thanksgiving Day. But, that just means you’ll have the opportunity to spend your time cooking up a feast and making memories cooking your meal together!

If cooking is not your thing, The Owl Café, The Franklin at the Gibson Inn, Blue Parrot, and Doc Myers Island Pub are known to offer holiday menus but check with them before heading there.

What Else Is There to Do During Thanksgiving Week on St. George Island?

St. George Island may not be the shopping mecca for Black Friday shopping. It’s actually quite the opposite and is the perfect place to go when you’re trying to escape that type of chaos.

This year, for Black Friday, try hunting for seashells over deals! It’s the best way to take the headache out of a (usually) chaotic holiday week. But, if you choose to support our small local businesses, check out these cool little shops on St. George Island and Apalachicola Bay!

Plus, Saturday just so happens to be Shop Local Saturday!
